I have always meant to write this article, because many, many times in my day to day work, I encounter completely asinine behaviors in Microsoft products which make me wonder, how come they don’t know basic user interface design, and why has everyone else given up on building a good OS competitor for PCs?
Because there is no competition, the state of PC OS is the same as the state of Mobile OS was before the iPhone.
Why can’t someone, anyone build a PC OS which we can easily install on any x86 hardware? This is so frustrating. PCs have…
I know that a lot of people have read my articles about MQA, Qobuz, Tidal and streaming in general. You already know that in my opinion, music of any sort sounds worse played back directly from a Mac/ PC, even with a USB DAC in between.
I’ve now had quite a bit of time to listen to both Qobuz & Tidal in detail. In the meantime, I have also listened to an SACD, Blu Ray Audio & DVD Audio. I also went to the trouble of listening to DSD music played back from the Onkyo High-Res player in iOS.
Sometimes when you are in the right place at the right time, you get the opportunity to design your home from scratch. I got this opportunity many years ago because the only home available was a yet to be built home.
We did many things right. We gave them the floor plan of a house we liked, and asked them to combine it with their style of interior to build a modern, very reasonably priced home which was highly customized:
I often think about the foolish engineer at Google who wrote that women are not built to be software engineers. There was a strange dichotomy about that statement which I have pondered about for a while now. I finally got the answer in the past few weeks.
A human baby is one of the most powerful computational hardware in our known universe. It has all the hardware and the necessary basic software needed to grow into a fully grown intelligent, sentient entity at adulthood.
Men have often spent very little time bringing up their children. …
Today I had the itch to writeup some thoughts I had on what Sonos should really be doing in their roadmap. This seems to be a company like Google and Microsoft, already there, already doing something, but somehow caught up in its own inertia and not doing something really brilliant.
I agree that the Sonos Roam lets Sonos expand into the Wireless/ Bluetooth speaker market:
But, I think Sonos can still do better than go into an existing “safe” market segment. This is not exactly a high margin situation anyway. …
I watched a YouTube video yesterday where a YouTuber went into elaborate detail to track and find the criminals who were stealing a lot of money from gullible elders.
He showed how they send spam emails or make spam calls to these people and trap them. And there was a lot of details about how the money is sent in such a way as to reach the criminals without traceability.
If you see the video, you might end up thinking that the gullible elderly people are somehow responsible for being hood winked because they are too trusting of others.
I believe this is the most useful article I have written to date:
Other than the fact that this is made by a chinese company, this is one of the best, more under rated programs I have ever seen on the Windows platform. Like a breath of cool air in hell as Steve Jobs would say.
Unbelievable! a windows program written by a third party vendor which actually works very, very well in the real world.
I say this because I ran this to the ground, and it passed every test with flying colors, even surviving a windows update without…
Recently, I have found that almost every problem with Windows 10 ends up using the same commands to fix issues.
Mostly this has to do with data corruption on the disks. I have found these two commands invaluable when facing any kind of weird issues with Windows — especially instability & crashes. Sometimes even programs which cannot be installed, can be installed after these two commands are run in sequence.
This article is written for people who don’t have the time or patience to go through long winded technical articles from Microsoft.
