I have not been able to receive calls on my iPhone for the past few years. I learned many new things on the way to the fix.

I don’t know when this issue started. It was just a few random calls, to begin with—my iPhone would not ring on occasion and go straight to voice mail. Over time, more and more calls displayed this strange behavior.

The straw that broke the camel’s back was the persistence of the issue when I upgraded my iPhone XS Max to the 16 Pro — this still would not work.

Then we traveled to India and registered a new eSIM with a local carrier, but my iPhone still did not ring when people called me for essential reasons.

All the while, I would give everyone two numbers — one for me and the other for my wife, because I knew this would rarely ring.

What is this issue which persists across iPhones, the SIM -> eSIM transition and even carriers across multiple countries? Wow.

After I got back, I called Apple Support. I suspected that this was happening because of the large number of blocked numbers on my iPhone.

When BestBuy got breached many years ago, my information leaked online and since then I have been targeted by hackers in waves of attacks…
