This movie was hyped to the heavens and had some excellent trailers on Youtube. So, expectations were pretty high when I watched it after its release on Netflix. After watching the movie, it took me a few days to come up with theories on how the heck it came out the way it did. Note that this article is speculation + a movie review.
None of the scenes in the trailer, were in the movie. If this is not a switch and bait, I don’t know what is.
I have never seen a movie where some key scenes in the trailer are not even in the movie. Not once; not ever. I’m not sure what the heck is going on.
The movie had some great ideas in it. I may even say it could have been another Rang De Basanti. I think the script and the director totally let down the movie.
It is like Bahubali without Rajamouli and KGF without Prashanth Neel. I completely believe this could have been a great movie. But it was completely botched — you could only see flashes of brilliance within it.
I would say Mamta Mohandas was brilliant in the movie, but it is hard to say, because we never really get to see her a lot. Her role was completely cut. Suraj was amazing as the cop. Between these two actors and the young cast, all by themselves it was an amazing movie with an amazing story.
It’s like they rushed through the story of an entire movie in the first half — which worked really well — but it really showed that the story had been cut into pieces to fit into one half.
The second half had too many things going on to be coherent. Too many stories, complications and twists essentially ruined what could have been a great movie. What they should have done is to fully flush out the story which was massively maimed to fit into the first half and given Mamta, Suraj & the junior actors, their place in the sun.
It would still have been a great movie with just Suraj and Mamta for the entire movie and Prithviraj entering in the end, and showing that entire part of the story in the second movie. They should have figured out a better way to end part 1, instead of this mess.
Overthinking what was already an amazing part 1…
